“The Middle” marks the first time Zedd has collaborated with country singer Maren Morris, but he has teamed up with production duo Grey various times before, on songs such as “Starving” and “Adrenaline.” Zedd first introduced this song in a one-second teaser snippet on Twitter as his first release of 2018. The song was released in full on January 24, 2018. On the song, Morris sings about trying to find a compromise between her and a lover in order to save a relationship.
