“The Last Time” is a 1965 orchestral adaptation of the The Last Time recorded by The Andrew Oldham Orchestra for the album The Rolling Stones Songbook. Produced under Andrew Loog Oldham and arranged by David Whitaker, the recording is notable for its dramatic string arrangement, which was later sampled by The Verve for Bitter Sweet Symphony. The sample became the subject of a long-running copyright dispute before the publishing rights were returned to Richard Ashcroft and The Verve in 2019.
