The Kingdom of the West Saxons, or the Kingdom of Wessex, that united all of England in the 10th century flew a golden dragon as a it's banner. The Bayeux Tapestry depicts a fallen golden dragon at the death of King Harold Godwison, who was previously Earl of Wessex.
