Joe McElderry's first single is "The Climb"; it was released by download on the 14th December 2009 and was available on CD by 16 December 2009. It is a cover of a country pop song performed by American recording artist and actress Miley Cyrus for the 2009 film Hannah Montana: The Movie. The song was written by Jessi Alexander and Jon Mabe, who were inspired by their experiences in the music industry. It reached number 1 in both the UK and Ireland charts.
