Often stated by singer Brian Molko as his favourite song to play live off of Placebo's sixth studio album, "Speak in Tongues" contains a moving string section also identified in many of Placebo's more recent releases. "Speak in Tongues" indicates two people conversing in their own secret language, This may come from a shared experience or one voice is urging the other not to give in to the temptation of the quick fix; instead to seek the sun and to push through whatever their troubles may be.
