Song
Kanye enlists the help of friends and frequent collaborators GLC and Consequence to discuss the plight of the black man in the ghettos of Chicago. ‘Ye also discusses his work as a ghostwriter, explaining the lack of recognition he encountered, and how his demo tapes would get rejected – at the time, he was thought of more as a producer/writer than a rapper. This song samples Marvin Gaye’s “Distant Lover” The song was originally made for GLC but Ye’s manager Plain Pat convinced him to keep it on the album.
