“Sometimes” was the first single released from James' fifth studio album Laid. It features fast-paced acoustic strumming. The “Lester Piggott” part of the song’s title is inspired by the jockey of the same name, which Booth said was “because it has a racing beat”. During recording, Eno “went white and sat down” as Booth sang, later stating he had “just experienced one of the highlights of my musical life”.
