Slip-slidey funk meets folk in a familiar yet fresh groove informed by an array of artists from Al Green to James Taylor to John Mayer. The ringing background guitar adds light, while Broyer's whiskey-smoke voice eases the words into the foreground until the chorus makes its point. The portrait is perfect. The last minute of the song chugs along, more and more rock, less folk-funk, until a clever, tinkly strumming moment winds the listener down and out. It will be great to hear his upcoming recording.
