Written by the writing duo of Tom Marshall and Trey Anastasio, Sample in a Jar was initially panned by fans when it was released on Phish's 1994 album Hoist, being deemed the βThe Apocalypse That Will End the World of Phish as We Know Itβ, for it's mainstream, "hit", potential. "Sample" never made it on the charts as predicted by fans, but has become a common song featured at Phish shows. To date, it has been played 303 times (recently, mostly as a early-to-mid first set song), and counting, since it's debut on 2/4/93.
