“Proof” was the first song Paramore recorded for the album, and it intentionally had nothing to do with the band’s breakup. It sees Hayley commenting on how, regardless of how hard it is for her to believe in love, she has hope that it will eventually flourish. In an interview with The New York Times she said "I was trying to be intentional about not being bitter and not being angry, but using the hope that I felt that we did have a future, as a fuel, and to light me up from the inside."
