"Promised Land, or "Britain on Its Knees" - this is a song about a man who walks every road, every street, every by-way of the British Isles. He is gobsmacked, undone and confused by the dis-unity of his country. Rich people are getting richer, the homeless are growing in number every day. Backs were breaking under the weight of Thatcheration - but since I recorded this song in September, she's become the Dull Witch of Dulwich, a back seat driver, hectoring John Major, the son-in-law in front.
