"Operator" is a song by the American rock band Grateful Dead, featured on their 1970 album American Beauty. Written and sung by the band’s keyboardist and harmonica player Ron "Pigpen" McKernan, the song is one of the few Grateful Dead tracks solely credited to him. It stands out as a bluesy, folk-influenced tune with a storytelling approach.
