On the Wagon is the thirteenth track on Green Day's special compilation album, Shenanigans. Its origin comes from being a B-side off the initial release of the "Basket Case" single. The author is dealing with an addiction to alcohol and drugs but has also recently fallen in love, something that is tearing him part. He wants to fulfill his alcohol and drug cravings, but not fall back into addiction for the sake of wanting her. The feelings of love start kicking and he realizes how slow he's gonna have to go since he hasn't loved in a long time.
