Completed 1995. The music alternates between regions defined by two categories of source material: the composer's cats, and the extraneous noises left over from an instrumental recording sesison. Composer's programme note: The initial impetus for this piece was very simple: waking in the middle of the night to hear my cats purring loudly beside me, perceiving them in a half-woken state as both intimate reality and surreal abstraction.
