Memory is an overarching concept within Boards of Canada’s music, as the brothers detailed in a 2005 interview with The Wire: "If there’s sadness in the way we use memory, it’s because the time you’re focusing on has gone forever. I guess it’s a theme we play on a lot, that bittersweet thing where you face up to the fact that certain chapters of your life are just Polaroids now."
