"Memories" is a 1982 track by the band Material, featuring lead vocals by a then-unknown Whitney Houston. The song was included on the album One Down and marked Houston's first-ever lead vocal recording, three years before her breakthrough as a solo artist. The song is a cover of a track originally written by Hugh Hopper of the band Soft Machine. The track also features jazz saxophonist Archie Shepp, and its production leans into a blend of avant-garde and jazz elements with a funky twist.
