Janis Joplin's recording of Me and Bobby McGee is a legendary musical achievement that became her most famous posthumous hit. The song, originally written by Kris Kristofferson and Fred Foster, was first performed by Roger Miller, but Joplin's version became the definitive rendition. Joplin's version was the second posthumously released No. 1 single in U.S. chart history, following Otis Redding's (Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay. In 2002, her recording was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.
