The title of the song is an allusion to the HBO series The Wire's antagonist, Marlo Stanfield. The character is noted for his quiet ruthlessness, as referenced in both a scene from the from episode ten in season four. Charles Marlow, almost always referred to simply as “Marlow,” is also the protagonist of Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness, sent up the Congo River by a trading firm to rein in its bloodthirsty agent Kurtz.
