Gloria Jane wrote this song about "Madison County" back when she lived in West Jefferson Ohio. She loved the beauty of the county so much she talked her sister into moving there as well. After her sister had been there for a few months she told Gloria Jane that she had grown to feel the same way about Madison County as Gloria Jane did, and she suggested that Gloria Jane write a song about her love for the place. And that's how this song came into being.
