The group was formed by Daniel Tshanda. Penwell Kunene and Joseph Tshimange were part of the original Matshikos. Their first album was "The Park Is Mine" in 1991 was a major sucess both locally and internationally. Their next album "Innocent Man" in 1992 was also a great success and was followed by "Victory" in 1993. The original Matshikos split up. Dan Tshanda discovered the talented Dan Mokoena and released "Uzozisola" by Dan Mokoena as a solo artist performing as Matshikos.
