"Lili Marlene" is arguably one of Dietrich's most famous songs. It was taken up as the theme song for Irwin Rommel's Afrika Korps during their desert campaign during World War Two, and when sung in marching cadence and combined with Dietrich's smokey voice is still an inspiring melody.
