"The chorus for this song had been in my head for 20 years, but I had only a vague idea for a verse, the melody was almost the same as the chorus. My brother Neal came up with the melody we ended up using in the verse, different enough from the chorus that it worked. I also had a half-written song called ‘I Was Your Dream’, inspired by the ‘I was your idea’ TV commercial. The lyric went, in part, ‘I was your dream/That had to wait/And I’ve come back to tell you that it’s not too late.
