Written by Mark Brendan Walker (AKA Brendan Bane) Brendan, who does not even remotely speak french but like many Canadians learned and retained a long list of fragmented bits and pieces of the language having taken it in grade school wrote the first verse of Le Bateau in an effort to impress two attractive waitresses in Montreal (and it worked.) The poem grew on him and on many of his friends over time and Jason insisted that it be recorded for the album (CaveWalker - Feather that Burns.)
