“Last Dance” was written about the experience of encountering a person you haven’t seen for a long time that you once had strong feelings for, but no longer do. It was one of two songs not included on the original vinyl pressings of Disintegration, due to time limitations of the medium, and therefore listed as a bonus track on the cassette and CD releases. Robert Smith told Music Box TV in 1989 that “Last Dance” was written about: “…someone that you meet and you haven’t seen for a long time.
