Released as the fourth single from his 2004 debut album The College Dropout, Jesus Walks was produced by West. The song is built upon a sample of gospel hymn "Walk With Me" by The ARC Choir, a group of reformed drug addicts based New York. Written by West, rapper and friend Che Smith (who performs as Rhymefest), and violinist Miri Ben-Ari, the song was universally acclaimed by music critics, who praised its compelling sonic atmosphere and boldness in its open embrace of faith.
