It was released on August 21, 2025, through Kemosabe and RCA Records as the lead single from the album. The song was written by Doja, alongside Y2K and Jack Antonoff, who also produced the track, and is confirmed to be a funk-pop and disco-pop song. Doja Cat collaborated with Marc Jacobs in May 2025, and previewed a snippet of "Jealous Type" in the campaign’s ad.
