‘In the Backseat’ is the closing track of Arcade Fire’s 2004 album ‘Funeral’ and features the second vocal performance from Régine Chassagne on the album. The song is about Régine’s mother’s death and follows her thought process on her way to her mother’s funeral, in the backseat. Her being in the backseat in the song is also a metaphor for her not being in control of her life, and how now that her mother's gone, she must learn to drive and control her own fate.
