Song
Don Gibson of Shelby, North Carolina, a textile worker who became a prolific and important Nashville songwriter, wrote and recorded "I Can't Stop Loving You" in 1958. He is also known for writing the monster hit "Sweet Dreams" for Patsy Cline," as well as the hit country song "Oh Lonesome Me," recorded by several artists. Ray Charles, who always boasted a great love of country music, recorded the song in 1962, taking it all the way to Number One, also recording Gibson's "Oh, Lonesome Me," on his album Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music.
