Jonny Pierce explains that “Heart Basel” refers to a boyfriend “treating me ‘kindly’ at Art Basel in Miami, and then treating me like garbage after he got what he needed.” Art Basel is an international art show. "I know this sounds crazy, but after I finished writing this song and listened back, I felt it had some Talking Heads elements to it, musically. Maybe? This track is about being down at Art Basel a couple of years ago, and feeling really mistreated by a boy I was crushing on.
