"Happy Birthday" is a song written, produced, and performed by Stevie Wonder for the Motown label. Wonder, who was involved in the campaign to establish Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday as a national holiday, created the song to support this cause. The song has since become widely used during birthday celebrations, particularly among African Americans. "Happy Birthday" was released as the fourth single from Wonder's album "Hotter than July" (1980) in June 1981.
