Hanging Tree is a song by Counting Crows, the second track on their 2008 album Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings. It was composed by Crows’ lead guitarist Dan Vickery and frontman Adam Duritz, with Adam writing the lyrics. Duritz reportedly preferred having this song or When I Dream Of Michelangelo as the lead single for the album, as he felt these songs represented the album better thematically. Ultimately, the honour of lead single went to You Can’t Count On Me.
