Goodbye was the first release from the Spice Girls that did not feature Geri Halliwell. A pop power ballad designed for the lucrative Christimas market, the success of Goodbye seemed to indicate the popularity of the girls was still intact after the fallout from Halliwell's departure during their 1998 world tour. The track was written by the girls with its producers Richard "Biff" Stannard and Matt Rowe. The production team were also behind many of the previous hits by the Spice Girls, including Wannabe, Viva Forever and 2 Become 1.
