"God Save the King" (or "God Save the Queen" when the monarch is female) is the de facto national anthem of the United Kingdom. It is also one of the two national anthems of New Zealand and serves as the royal anthem of the Isle of Man, Australia, Canada, and several other Commonwealth realms. The composer of the song is unknown, though it may have originated as a plainchant; at times, it has been attributed to John Bull. Beyond the first verse, which is consistent, the song has numerous historic and contemporary versions.
