"Empty" is a song recorded by American singer Janet Jackson for her sixth studio album The Velvet Rope. It was written and produced by Jackson and Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, with additional writing by René Elizondo Jr. In 1997, to celebrate the release of The Velvet Rope, Janet did a track-by-track commentary with one of her first online fan clubs. Of “Empty,” she wrote: "I like computers and use them to write and communicate with people all over the world.
