Harper's seventh solo album, Album page: Valentine, doesn't have the classic profile of some of his other work from the early '70s, notably Album page: Stormcock. Its filigreed love songs, however, were written and recorded at the same time - and, as Commune proves, are every bit as good. Note especially David Bedford' gorgeous string arrangement, aligning Commune as kin to Nick Drake circa Bryter Layter.
