“Cenotaph” is the last song on Side-A of This Heat’s 1981 album "Deceit". The song is a condemnation of war, as well as a warning about what the band perceived as Earth’s imminent destruction through nuclear war. Charles Hayworth from the track notes on the 2016 vinyl reissue of "Deceit": “The instrumental tunes were written by Gareth early on in This Heat’s time, and the vocal tune had been through various sets of lyrics, but it all
