The narrator of this song is clearly in a bad situation. Potentially injured, afraid or seasick. He is on a ship or boat and continually asks the captain if he could please turn the ship around and take him home. However, he usually orders it rather than just asking politely. He is clearly in great distress, as the captain will not turn around.
