On “Mumble Rap,” the previous song, Amy won her first rap battle. “Cake” is her celebration of that victory. “Takes the cake” is an idiom for earning first place – this is the win of wins, adding layers to the significance of that rap battle. In the song, Lupe mentions activating your cognitive structures.
