black midi’s breakthrough single, “bmbmbm”, sees lead vocalist Geordie Greep endlessly repeating praise about a woman who “moves with a purpose,” but never stating what that purpose is. Greep’s tone is sarcastic and his delivery is maniacal. He contrasts the woman he’s praising with other people he sees as self-serving but does not elaborate any further. The lyrical style of the song can be considered “stream of consciousness” and is comparable to the writings of Gertrude Stein, such as her piece Picasso.
