LINER NOTES: The last centuries of Buddhism in India (roughly the ninth through twelfth centuries) saw the rise of figures called siddhas, a term which might be translated as “accomplished ones” or “adepts”. Their name derived from the possession of magical powers (siddhi). Numerous works attributed to the siddhas have been preserved, some being commentaries on tantric rituals, some being songs. These, while relatively straightforward, make mention of many of the most important themes of the genre: the natural purity of the mind
