“Black Moon Rising” is the first track (and the first single) from Black Pumas' self-titled debut album. Black Pumas use their first track to introduce the listener to their bluesy, soul-infused sound, and their lucid, psychedelic lyrics. Though the lyrics are surreal and impressionistic, a loose concept can be discerned about a man desperately in love with a beautiful woman who he knows is bad for him and will eventually bring him pain. This dependency on lost-cause love will reoccur later on the album with the song “OCT 33.”
