Black Eyed Dog was 1 of 4 songs Nick Drake recorded after the release of his final album 'Pink Moon' (the other 3 being 'Rider On The Wheel', 'Hanging On A Star' and 'Voice From A Mountain') . All 4 songs exhibit dark undertones and show a very fragile Drake at this point. Black Eyed Dog is a euphemism for depression or bad things and as such is used in the film 'Practical Magic', every time something bad happens that affects the lead character of Sally, played by Sandra Bullock.
