The song is about the German battleship Bismarck, the lead ship of the Bismarck-class fast battleships. Armed with a primary battery of eight 380mm cannons across four twin-gun turrets, a secondary battery of twelve 150mm cannons, protected by an armor belt 320mm thick, and a top speed of 30 knots, the Bismarck-class were the most powerful battleships fielded by the Kriegsmarine. Bismarck was made infamous during the Battle of Denmark Strait of the Second World War, where she sunk the British battlecruiser HMS Hood.
