"Big in Japan" is the debut single of German synth-pop band Alphaville, that led to the production of their 1984 album Forever Young. The track reached #1 in Germany, Sweden and Switzerland. It was the group's only UK hit, reaching No. 8 on the UK Singles Chart. The song also reached No. 1 on the U.S. Hot Dance Club Play chart in December 1984 but did not chart on the Hot 100. The theme was based on two friends who were involved in the sordid drug scene of West Berlin's Zoo station.
