"Bertha" is a song written by Jerry Garcia and Robert Hunter. It was first performed in February, 1971 and appeared on the band's self-titled live compilation released later that year. A studio version was never recorded, making it one of the Grateful Dead songs only heard live (or on live albums). "Bertha" was played frequently in the early 1970's and was performed by the band an estimated 401 times. The last performance of the song took place on June 27, 1995 at the Palace of Auburn Hills in Auburn Hills, Michigan.
