Three Barnsley characters are mentioned - Tommy Treddlehoyle in Victorian times entertained locals by dressing in top hat and frock coat while riding backwards on a donkey, Tommy Wallocks delivered props and artiste's luggage to local theatres from the railway station to local theatres, Kipper Jackson is today frequently seen drunk in Barnsley town centre or singing to a karaoke machine carried in a baby carriage (pram).
