“Always” is a one-sided love story inspired by the events of The Great Gatsby. He’s in love with someone that doesn’t appear to offer as much attention as he gives to them. Brendon wants them to send a signal of reciprocated affection. Unfortunately, the verses suggest that he doesn’t receive it.
