Thematically, “Also Frightened” is a commentary on Lennox’s experiences as an ambitious parent, but the song is also remarkable in its themes of mortality. Imagery of childhood is clearly represented within the sonics as well— the track crowded with wavy, psychedelic swoons, soft, billowing layers of voices, and disjointed percussion.
