Released in September of 1985, "Alive and Kicking" was the first single from Simple Minds' seventh studio album, Once Upon a Time. It reached #7 on the UK Official Charts and #3 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. Billboard Magazine ranked it as the 17th biggest single of 1986 in the U.S. The song and music video feature Robin Clark, who had previously worked with David Bowie and Luther Vandross. Zbigniew Rybczyński directed the music video. He also directed the video for "All the Things She Said," the third single from the same album.
