A Stoned Crow Meets the Rusty Wolff Rat - Pasi is totally to blame again. We decided to put together a track for a competition for female Virtuoso guitarists. This seemed like a good move, as we don't have one of those in the band. Pasi wrote this and of course it was bonkers. Colin added some guide guitars and Petri added bass and it had a nice drum track on it, good enough for the purpose. Months later. Not one of these virtuosos had had a go at it.
This collaborative experiment reveals something curious about creative constraint and artistic intention. Born from a practical need—sourcing a virtuoso guitarist for a competition—the track evolved into something unexpected through the band's collective problem-solving. The context itself raises interesting questions: how does working toward an external goal reshape a band's creative process? The willingness to build something "bonkers," as the creators describe it, suggests they embraced unconventional ideas rather than playing it safe. What emerges is worth examining not as a competition entry, but as a snapshot of how limitation and playful ambition can generate genuinely distinctive work.
